Sailing Counselor
Seasonal Sailing Counselor
Brief: To assist the Sailing Master with summer camp, spring break camp and on-call as required throughout the year for staffing purposes.
Job Description: The Sailing Counselor will be required to report for work from Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm from June to August, and as needed throughout the year to assist with various on-water activities and demonstrate appropriate sailing ability, satisfactory powerboat handling in the supervision of campers and the desire to help promote a safe, educational and enjoyable experience for members and their families.
The Sailing Counselor will abide by all existing Club policies, US Sailing codes of conduct and basic on-water safety protocols, and report directly to the Sailing Master and/or Dockmaster.
Additionally, the Sailing Counselor will be required to provide availability of at least 8 out of 12 weeks of summer camp prior to the start of summer, with previous vacation plans having been approved by Club Management, the Dockmaster and the Sailing Master.
Qualifications: In order to be considered for this position, the candidate must be able to demonstrate the following:
- Practical experience sailing dinghies
- At least 1 season experience volunteering and/or counseling on-water activities
- Must pass safe powerboat handling proficiency assessment by Dockmaster and/or Sailing Master
- Must be able to pass a background & drug screen (upon offer of employment)
- The following credentials are welcomed, but not required for consideration:
- Current US Sailing Counselor Certification (or above)
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification
- Current Florida Safe Boaters License (or equivalent, depending on the candidate's state of residence)
